It is always challenging for young learners to manage time. Juggling school and extra co-curricular activities require them to manage their time proficiently. For them, it is essential to be proficient at time management. The earlier they imbibe habits, the better they will manage time in the future.

A key component of time management is how a child organises and controls their time. Understanding the importance of the same, the best private schools in Singapore have focused on values, helping young learners to manage time proficiently. Not only this, but more efforts are being made to design more mindful curricula that will help instil better time management skills in children.

Though schools in Singapore have started to do their bit in helping young learners value time, it is also the responsibility of parents as well to do the same. In this article, we will discuss some tips for teaching your child to manage their time.

    Tips to improve time management

    1. To-do lists

Inculcate the habit of making to-do lists in your children. Doing so will help them remember all the tasks they must complete in a day. After completing a task, ask them to cross it off the list. This will help them to experience a feeling of goal achievement.

    1. Make a Calendar

Time management can be learned more proficiently using a calendar. Students should try and use a paper or digital calendar to record their obligations. In addition, all class schedules should be colour coded to indicate deadlines for assignments and exam periods, such as red for deadlines and green for examinations.

    1. Prioritisation

Another critical aspect of time management is setting priorities or what to focus on first. A-B-C technique of prioritisation can help a lot. First, you should note all upcoming tasks. Then assign an A, B, or C to each work:

A – It must be finished today.

B – If completed today, it’d be nice.

C – If necessary, it can be postponed until tomorrow.

Prioritising your tasks will make your child better at planning. The better they plan their day, the better their time will be managed.

    1. Flexibility

Adapting to different situations is essential for effective time management. It is always time to shift gears when life decides that a C-level assignment has become an A-level one. Help young learners understand the task’s priority and change their plans when required. Concentration and completion of tasks are essential, but children need to be flexible while working.

    1. Procrastination

Procrastinating on tasks always results in anxiety which in turn affects one performance as well. To help avoid the same, parents and teachers need to help young learners be aware of why they indulge in procrastination. For instance, a student might be reluctant to do their maths homework as they find it difficult. Knowing the same, they can also be encouraged to clarify doubts and proceed with homework. Priorities should be revised if a child feels they need more time to complete their tasks.

    1. One project at a time

Trying to complete numerous things at once affects the child’s productivity. Ask the students to complete one task with utmost attention and concentration. Doing so prevents their attention from being divided, and tasks are completed easily and accurately

    1. Deadlines and goals

Successful time managers always remember a deadline. It may entail working ahead of schedule rather than trying to catch up. Making a deadline requires one to stay ahead of them.

Particular attention should be paid to deadlines when working on written tasks. The product will suffer if writing is done without time for corrections. Good writing requires time for editing.

    1. Taking a break

Taking breaks is vital when performing tasks requiring intense concentration. It is important to re-energise and work with the same attention and concentration. Tasks seem monotonous to children when they do not take breaks, lowering their productivity.

    Conclusion

Time management can be overwhelming for young learners, especially when they have a list of tasks to finish. Moreover, it is among the most challenging responsibilities for students since they must do well and generate good outcomes while managing the demands of schoolwork, projects, and keeping up with friends. Both parents and teachers play a crucial role in helping children to manage their time. Due to this, it is necessary for your child in the secondary school admission in singapore  so they can learn how to manage their time along with school and other co-curricular activities.
