In writing, the use of organisational patterns lays down the foundation of clarity and understanding for the reader. There are different ways to organise content. All of the ways to organise content develop an interest of the reader. If you do not use any of the ways, it will cause confusion for the reader. Ultimately, it diverts the attention of a reader. One of the most frequently used ways is spatial order. So, this article aims to discuss the role and importance of spatial order in academic writing.

What is Spatial Order in Writing?

In writing, spatial order is an action to arrange information as per physical location. It can be related to a particular thing, object or character. In the same way, it can be related to some place. Sometimes, the use of spatial order is optional. On the other hand, it can be an unavoidable aspect in some writing types. There are many writers who have good content. Also, they have a strong command on vocabulary, punctuation and grammar. Here, the most important thing to note is that these are not the only aspects required for writing. Writers are not even aware of many other aspects required in writing. One of such aspect is spatial order.

In story writing, it matters a lot to describe things so that the reader can visualise the whole scene. Also, novel writers ensure the use of spatial order. In the story of a novel, the writer explains how character of novel looks like. The writer mentions things from the perspective of a character. The detailed description of everything makes it easy to visualise the location. Even you can feel that you are present at that location. This approach helps the writer to write an amazing story that increases the number of reader at a high rate.

Furthermore, you can use this action in any type of descriptive writing. The action of explaining attributes is not for some existing location or object only, but you can use it for some ideas too. While sharing an idea, the use of spatial order attracts the attention of a reader. The reader imagines the place, and it hits his mind for further connections. This is the reason that rather than writing on your own, it is advised to hire a coursework writing service.

    Why Spatial Order is Important

The use of spatial order is not the choice of the writer, but some of writing types need it. Another example of spatial order is a designer. Suppose you are a designer and you have to discuss about the design of a plaza. In such a situation, you need to examine different attributes of that plaza. It includes location of plaza and all of the shops that would be a part of that plaza. Here, you cannot describe well without spatial order.

What is the Purpose of Spatial Organization in Writing

The purpose of spatial organisation in writing is to make things clear for the reader. If the reader finds content easy to understand, it means the writer did a good job, and he has fulfilled the requirement of writing. In order to make things clear, different approaches are used. In all of the approaches, pattern of writing is a primary demand. Your purpose of writing decides which type of content organisation can work well. For example, your writing purpose is to visualise things for the reader. The visualisation of the story makes it easy for a reader to understand and memorise the scenario. For this purpose, spatial order is used in writing. The primary purpose of spatial order is to describe things in physical space. It serves the purpose of describing one object in terms of its placement with respect to the other. It can be in one of the following forms:

    • Top to bottom
    • Bottom to top
    • Right to left
    • Left to right
    • At some angle

In writing, you have to let things move in a forward direction. The forward direction is only possible when past scenarios are explicit. In writing, you may have to discuss more than one location or the evolution of one place. In both of cases, you can use transition words that reinforce the description. While working on spatial order, if you skip the use of transition words, you may lose clarity of things.

The placement of things can be ideal or reality. In ideal conditions, you need to be more conscious, because what you are thinking is not in the mind of the reader. It is in your mind, and you have to make it clear to the reader in the form of foot-by-foot action. The explanation of what exists, in reality, is somehow easy. In this case, you just need to focus on the correct use of words.

What is Order of Importance in Writing

Many writers take order of importance the same as spatial order. It is very important for such writers to understand that both of the terms are different. Order of importance and spatial order, both are ways of content organisation in writing. The difference in both types is in their approaches. In order of importance, the basic purpose is to rank different objects. The reason behind this ranking is to show the worth of a particular object. The ranking can be in two forms, as mentioned below:

    • More important object to the least essential object
    • The least important thing to the more important object

In the end results of an order of importance, you can convince the reader of a particular point of view. Based on ranking, you can plan new strategies to work. At the organisational level, the use of the order of importance is very common.

    Final Thoughts

All of the above-mentioned aspects show that spatial order is an unavoidable part of academic writing when the discussion is related to some place. One of the most important things is that the writer should have a clear idea about the difference in content organisation methods. Spatial order differs from other organisational methods in terms of attributes. For example, spatial order describes about the location. On the other hand, chronological order focuses on time. That is how different organisational methods focus on different aspects.
